FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Memphis, TN - This Spring Spanish Cultural Series presents three acoustic concerts by top Spanish-speaking singer-songwriters of different styles and generations at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.

The series will offer Memphians the opportunity to hear in an intimate atmosphere three of the most talented and acclaimed names in song craft in Spanish.

The first of them, Mr. Kilombo (Spain), is set to kick off the series on Sunday, April 27, with an uplifting concert filled with energy and catchy melodies that will include songs from his sixth album as well as classics from his repertoire.

Cuban legend Pedro Luis Ferrer, master of the guaracha song form, will play Sunday, May 11, accompanied by her daughter Lena. During his long career, dating back from the early 70's, his songs have been recorded by such artists as Celia Cruz or Omara Portuondo (Buena Vista Social Club).

Pedro Pastor (Spain), will close the series on Saturday, May 24. At just 30 years old, and with four albums under his belt, he represents and leads a new generation of singer-songwriters in the Spanish music scene. The son of fellow singer-songwriter Luis Pastor and nephew of Pedro Guerra, he has already spent over 20 years on the stage, with over 600 concerts in more than 17 countries. His music straddles between Latin America and Spain, with lyrics that are a hymn to change and freedom.

All concerts will take place at 2:30 PM. For tickets and more information, visit the program's website, www.spanishculturalseries.com.

The series is organized by Spanish instructor and cultural manager Marina Carracedo, MAEC/AECID exchange visiting lecturer from Spain at the World Languages Department of the University of Memphis and cultural manager, and Romar Rodríguez-León, Assistant Professor of Spanish at the same institution, and supported in part by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Memphis.
