MEMPHIS, Tenn.
As the sun rises over the Mississippi River, a group of yoga enthusiasts gathers at River Garden, unrolling their mats on the grass. With the Mississippi River behind them, the sound of water, and instructions from Candance Hermine fill the air.
Yoga on the River, a seasonal outdoor yoga series, has returned to downtown Memphis offering free community classes with a view. Organized by a local yoga instructor and supported by Memphis River Parks Partnership, the event invites participants of all skill levels to connect with nature while focusing on mindfulness and movement.
“It was super fun,” said Hannah Blake, a regular attendee. “Super experienced people can come super not experienced people can come and have a great time.”
The classes are held every Tuesday evening through April. Organizers say the goal is to make yoga more accessible and fun while encouraging people to spend time trying new things.
“We want to create a space that feels like a house party” said instructor and event coordinator Candance Hermine. “That made people comfortable in their bodies and coming and exploring”
Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats, towels, and water bottles. Classes begin at 6 p.m. and last an hour.
