Five University of Memphis Students Have Visas Revoked

According to a university spokesperson, five University of Memphis students have had their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) visas revoked.

According to ABC 24 News, a statement sent to them read, "We have been informed that five current University of Memphis students have had their SEVIS record terminated as of Wednesday, April 16. "Our Division of International Affairs is actively working with the impacted students in addition to advising all UofM international students on how to navigate and maintain their status."

The students’ identities have not been revealed, and this is all the university will be commenting on at this time.

The visa suspension comes after other universities in Tennessee had student visas suspended; including nine from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and two recent graduates from East Tennessee State University. In total, 20 students so far have had visas revoked across Tennessee.

The suspension of University of Memphis student visas come close to the end of the semester and graduation.

If a student has their visa revoked, the student is required to leave the country or possibly face deportation. This is a developing story.
