In the heart of Memphis, Cheetah University Foundation is transforming lives through the power of mentorship and sport. Founded by Montrell Lacy Jr., this nonprofit focuses on uplifting young men through its grassroots football program, guided by the core values of Faith, Family, and Football.
More than a team, CheetahU 7v7 strives to be more of a brotherhood. The program creates meaningful bonds that go beyond the field—bonds that strengthen communities and inspire future leaders.
“We’re not just here to play football,” said Lacy. “We’re here to build young men into something greater.”
Amid growing challenges faced by Memphis youth, Cheetah University offers a crucial lifeline. Rising crime, limited resources, and a lack of mentorship often threaten the futures of young athletes. That’s why CheetahU steps in—not just to coach, but to care.
“We want to dedicate our time, knowledge, and resources to building better young men,” the organization states.
The results are real. The 15U team recently claimed the championship title at the 16th Annual Offense-Defense National Championship at the Liberty Bowl—a testament to their hard work and unity.
Wins on the field are only part of the mission. At its core, Cheetah University is about purpose. It empowers youth to believe in themselves, to rise above their circumstances, and to give back to the city they love. As NFL star Richard Sherman once said, “Confidence is a prerequisite for success.” CheetahU lives this truth—instilling confidence in every player it mentors.
Through faith, family, and football, Cheetah University is shaping not just athletes, but leaders. And Memphis is stronger for it.
