University of Memphis students interested in photography and travel have the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program at the University of Kent in England from May 12 through June 3.
“We’re talking about real ancient castles—not something from Disneyland,” said David Horan, a traditional and digital photography professor at the University of Memphis.
Horan highlighted one of the many historic locations students will visit during the trip. Participants will explore Canterbury, London, and Marlborough, visiting famous ruins, restaurants, and even a castle featured in the Harry Potter films.
“You realize how different it is to stand in front of a palace when you’ve only seen it on television,” said Horan.
Students will be housed at the University of Kent, where they will have access to grocery stores and on-campus restaurants. Each student will have a private room and bathroom, with a shared community kitchen.
“This is a very inexpensive way to experience traveling,” Horan said.
The program costs $4,000 in all, but all students are eligible for scholarships to reduce expenses. The cost covers housing, a rail pass, and meals. The deadline to apply is March 1.
Memphis Education Abroad offers over 200 different programs in 60 different countries to interested students. Many courses are catered to a specific major, but there are also programs where students can take a separate credit they may need.
