How are UofM students celebrating the Super Bowl?

Funny commercials, legendary halftime performances, and prop bets on everything from the anthem to the first time Taylor Swift will be on camera. This could only mean one thing: the Super Bowl.

With the big game just a day away, the Daily Helmsman wants to know how students at the University of Memphis are getting ready for the occasion.

One of the biggest ways people are preparing for the game is in their choice of food. Almost everyone we talked to said that trips to a local wing joint and dips such as Rotel or guacamole are a must have. Jadon Thomas, a junior biomedical engineering major, said that Crumpy’s Hotwings are his go-to, specifically the honey hot wings.

The game itself has also garnered some strong opinions. The predominant one is that the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs are a king to knock off the throne. Despite these strong feelings, a vast majority of the students said they anticipated the halftime performance by Kendrick Lamar and SZA far more than the game, with one student going so far as to say they “definitely” were more excited for half time.

At the end of the day, most students are just using the Super Bowl as a reason to get together and be with family and friends, have some good food and something entertaining to watch.
