Memphis Men's Basketball played what was probably the slowest and grindiest game of the season against North Texas, beating them 68-64. It was a contest that saw the Tigers take the lowest number of shots (44) and have the least assists (7) out of any game all season against a Mean Green team that is bottom five in pace in the entire country.

The result gives Memphis the last potentially positive addition to a NCAA Tournament resume they'll get until the AAC Conference Championship.

"I knew what was to be expected against North Texas because I saw them last year in their place when they blew us out," said Penny Hardaway after the game.

This win comes despite Memphis finishing -9 on the rebounds, with North Texas having a 12-4 advantage on the offensive glass, and 15 turnovers commited by the Tigers.

The game was always within reach for either team when they were behind; it always seemed like right when one would pull away, a 6-0 or 7-0 run came around to keep the game tight. Dain Dainja was crucial for Memphis' offense throughout this game; he finished with 14 points on 5-6 shooting. He was the Tigers' safety valve when they needed a bucket, and in Dainja's own words, he felt like "no one could guard [him]."

Memphis was able to get some seperation on the scoreboard late when PJ Haggerty, who finished with 27 points, hit a ridiculous three as the shot clock expired. The Tigers hit some clutch free throws afterwards and pulled out the win.

"I seen the clock, I think it had one second, so I just had to, like, get it up and it went in," said Haggerty about the shot. When asked if he was surprised it went in, he simply replied "Nah, not really."

Memphis is back in action on Jan. 11 against East Carolina at FedEx Forum.
