Two Students Dead, Two Injured in Nashville School Shooting

Nashville, Tenn. - On Wednesday, January 22, a 16-year-old female student from Antioch High School located in Davidson County was shot and killed in a school shooting. This is already the third recorded school shooting in the United States so far this year; the first one with reported fatalities.

The perpetrator of the shooting, identified by police as 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, shot and killed himself at the scene. He was a student at the high school. The two injured students (one from a graze, the other from a fall) received treatment and were released from a Nashville hospital.

The female victim, identified as Josselin Corea Escalante, was confronted by the gunman in the school cafeteria where she was shot. Escalante’s father briefly spoke with a local news station and said he was, “simply speechless in the face of [an] unimaginable tragedy.”

A male student victim was grazed in the arm and was treated and released, police said. Another male student was not shot but did sustain a facial injury. Metro Police did not release their names.

The shooting comes nearly two years after the 2023 Covenant School shooting in Nashville where three children and three staff members were killed.

Investigations in this incident are still ongoing. There is no known motive.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and all students, faculty, and parents of Antioch High School.
