After an 11-point win in the first game of the season against Mississippi Valley State, Memphis lost to Mississippi State 56-100.

Memphis was competitive throughout the first half, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half.

The Tigers could not stop MSU from scoring and Memphis could not get their offense to click either. Only two women’s Tigers scored double digits in points, Tilly Boler led with 23 points and Alasia Smith scored 10.

Mississippi State on the other hand had four ladies in double digits and the Tigers could not stop their momentum.

Takeaways From this Matchup for the Tigers

Memphis must get more players involved offensively.  They also have to work on their defense and learn how to stop these teams in their possessions.

They can also improve on their rebounding, which hurt them a lot in this game. Mississippi State exploited their size advantage down low, as Medina Okot recorded 17 rebounds, while nobody on Memphis had double-digit rebounds.

A positive is that this team did not give up no matter how many points they were down. Like the exhibition versus South Carolina, they tried to fight back as much as they could.

The Tigers have a chance to bounce back from the loss Sunday against Samford at home.
