Memphis Outlasts UNLV 80-74

The Memphis Tigers won a tough game on the road at UNLV 80-74. PJ Haggerty was dominant for the Tigers, putting up 28 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while shooting 10 for 18 from the field.  

Colby Rogers and Nicholas Jourdain had good games as well, scoring 16 and 12 respectively. Dedan Thomas Jr. Was UNLV’s leading scorer with 22. 

The first half was a struggle for Memphis. They shot an abysmal 9/28 from the field and 1/9 from three. They had four players with two fouls and had 8 turnovers. Despite this they were only down by four, 34-30 at halftime. 

 In the second half the Tigers kept it close, then took the lead with 6:08 remaining. PJ Haggerty and Tyrese Hunter had three huge and-ones down the stretch. Memphis made their free throws and handled the ball well to close out the game.  

Memphis shot 51.8% from the field and 35.3% from three. The Tigers outrebounded UNLV 39 to 33 and were led by Dain Dainja with 11. The team got into foul trouble early but stayed disciplined in the second half. They also struggled with turnovers early but settled down as the game went on.  

The Tigers’ defense played well, holding UNLV to 39.7% from the field. Nicholas Jourdain set the tone on the defensive end and had 2 blocks and 2 steals. Memphis guarded the perimeter well, but UNLV is a good shooting team and shot 36% from three.  

After two big wins, the Tigers will come home for one game before heading back out west to face San Francisco and play in the Maui Invitational Tournament. 

The next game for Memphis basketball is on November 15 at 7 p.m. at home against Ohio University. It will be streamed on ESPN+.
