Sunset Serenade: Live Music at the Health Science Park

On Oct. 24, there was the first of 2 free sunset concerts in the Health Science Park with food trucks, beverages, and live music co-presented by Memphis Medical District Collaborative, University of Memphis' Blue Tom Records and the Overton Park Shell on Wheels, organized by the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.

Before the show started, Meredith Taylor, communications engagement associate with Memphis Medical District collaborative welcomed everyone and gave a shoutout to the Overton Park Shell on Wheels and the University of Memphis’ student run record label, Blue Tom, “who, without their collaboration this event would not be possible,” said Taylor.

Taylor then handed it over to Yolanda Kelly, the outreach manager for Shell on Wheels who emphasized the Shell on Wheels mission, which is to “take performing arts directly to your backyard.”

Lastly, before the event began, two students from Blue Tom Records, Connor and Amiyah introduced the performers for the night, Meaghan Christina and Ozioma, both UofM students, and UofM Alumna, Trinity Adair, including Tavonte Campbell on drums and Craylon Davis on keys.

There were a variety of different songs performed including “So Beautiful” by Musiq Soulchild, “Sweet Life” by Frank Ocean, and “Tell Me Something Good” by Chaka Khan and Rufus. People in the crowd were enjoying the music, dancing along, and giving support to the
performers.

“Getting the opportunity to do this event was definitely amazing”, said Ozioma, the opener of the night. Ozioma performed 5 different songs, one of them being an original cover of “Pipe Down” by Drake, which she dedicated to her mom.

The next event will be Thursday, Oct 31, at the Health Science Park with live music from DJ South Memphis Jeff, (UofM Faculty), opener Alexis Jade (UofM Alumna) and the Gemstones, and headliner Canale and Degenerate Breakfast.
