New Fine Arts Collab, Sound + Vision, Premieres at the Scheidt

Numerous musicians and artists collaborated for the opening of the Sound + Vision art exhibit at the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center on Oct. 3, helping to visualize a combination of melodies and masterpieces through chamber music accompanying visual art.

As musicians proudly played musical pieces inspired by art, attendees could see the hard work the musicians put into each song to accommodate the art pieces they were inspired by.

“Inner disciplinary has given me great opportunities with different concentrations doing what we love and when we were presented with these amazing ideas for the collaboration, it was perfect,” said Andrew McGuire, a second-year doctorate for viola performance.

Through every pitch and note was the tell-tale sign of hard work, passion, and dedication that told a story of art.

“Visual art collabs with music,” said Professor Coe Lapossy. “One of the things we like to remind students is that time in school is precious. So, we wanted to make an environment that we can learn about different lines of creativity.”

The music department, as well as the visual art students, found the style of the collaboration exhilarating.

"My role as a music professor is to teach the class community engagement through music,” said Rebecca Arendt, a professor in the music department. “We have musicians and painters that work together so we can have a sense of community. Artists were paired with chamber groups to explore a specific piece and music that accompanies it.”
