Frights and Fun: Halloween Events for UofM Students and Locals

With Halloween approaching, the University of Memphis and the city of Memphis are planning a mesmerizing lineup of scary events that are sure to captivate both students and locals.

Whether you're looking for a haunted home that will make your skin crawl, a high-energy costume party on campus, or a scary ghost tour through Memphis' haunted streets, there's no shortage of spine-tingling entertainment. For those who are new to the city or simply want to get into the Halloween mood, these activities offer a frighteningly good time that should not be missed.

According to the University of Memphis events app, Tiger Zone, there are plenty of thrilling activities to get students in the Halloween spirit.

Kicking off the spooky season, the Honors College is hosting a Murder Mystery Party on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. "Join HSO as we try to solve whodunnit!" the organization said online.

If you're a fan of eerie cinema, the Korean Pop Culture Association will hold a movie night on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m., encouraging attendees to "bring your blankets and spooky snacks for a cozy and eerie evening of cinematic delight."

This month also marks LGBTQ+ History Month, and the Stonewall Tigers Gender and Sexuality Alliance is planning a Grand Finale event with their 5th Annual Drag Show and Costume Contest on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Participants have a chance to win a cash prize while enjoying free food.

On Halloween night itself, Chi Alpha will host a party at Centennial Place starting at 6 p.m. For more information on these events, students can download the Tiger Zone Mobile App.

However, the Halloween fun doesn’t stop at the University gates. Eventbrite lists a variety of festive
activities happening around Memphis. For fitness enthusiasts, Rumble Boxing will offer free boxing classes on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Bring your gloves, shoes, and energy for this scream-worthy workout.

If you're looking to get your home Halloween-ready, Country Gardens Memphis has you covered with hay bales, corn stalks, mums, and pumpkins.

For those seeking thrills and chills, haunted houses in Memphis like Backbeat Tours, Haunted Web Scream Park, Historical Haunts Memphis, and Wicked Ways Haunted House are sure to get your heart racing.

Halloween night also offers classic events such as trunk-or-treats and costume parties. One of the city's most popular attractions, Zoo Boo at the Memphis Zoo, features dinosaur-themed activities and trick-or-treat stations for all ages.
