With week one of the NFL season in the books, Memphis football’s alumni made their presence felt. In total, 14 Tigers were on active rosters this weekend. Of these former Tigers, several made a big impact on the game.
Tony Pollard RB Titans
16 carries, 82 yards, 1 TD, 26 long.
In his Titans debut, tony looked as electric as he was in Dallas. Most people thought he would split reps with former Tulane RB, Tyjae Spears, but that was not the case. Tony ended up putting up four times the number of carries as Tyjae. He looked very promising as he ended up rushing for five first downs. If they continue to feed him the rock, he will have a very solid first year in Nashville.
Bryce Huff DE Eagles
1 AST
Although Bryce did not record too many stats, that does not mean he did not contribute. He played his role, putting pressure on the QB. Bryce is expected to be a valuable asset to the Eagles D-line this year, as evident by the three-year, $51 million dollar contract he received this offseason. He knows his role and fulfills it to a tee.
Blake Watson RB Broncos
DNP
Even though Blake did not play his first game, the Broncos’ staff are exceedingly high on Memphis' star running back from last season. It will be hard to see the field considering he is a newcomer and a 4th string RB, but if he can continue to develop under the Broncos, he could be competing for a starting spot in two years.
Jake Elliott PK Eagles
2/2 FG, 4/4 XP
Jake Elliott started off on a strong foot as usual. He has been one of the steadiest kickers in the NFL in recent memory. This past Friday, Jake hit a 21-yard field goal and a 38-yard field goal, helping the Eagles to a 34-29 win.
