University of Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway picked up his first commitment for the Class of 2024 today. Jared Harris, a top 100 shooting guard from Silsbee, Texas, announced his commitment to the Tigers on his Twitter page Monday morning.
Harris visited the University of Memphis this past weekend and was impressed enough by his experience to commit. Harris held other offers from Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Stephen F. Austin, and others. He is a scoring guard with long arms and a solid jump shot.
Penny Hardaway and his staff continue to add to their impressive recruiting resume. Harris’s commitment continues a trend of newcomers committing soon after their official visits.
With one of the oldest current rosters in college basketball, the 2024 recruiting class needs to be a big one for the Tigers. Include Harris in the mix, Hardaway and staff will turn their attention to two other class of 2024 prospects with strong ties to Memphis.
Top 50 prospect Billy Richmond III, son of former Tiger Billy Richmond, is expected to visit later this month. Curtis Givens III is also expected to visit the Tigers later this month. Givens, a current top 75 point guard prospect, started his high school career at MUS before transferring to Montverde Academy.
As the Tigers prepare to make another NCAA tournament push this year, Penny and his staff continue to put in serious work on the recruiting trail.
