Former Alabama Guard Jahvon Quinerly Transfers to Memphis

Penny Hardaway’s list of transfers continues as the Tigers landed a big splash with the commitment of Jahvon Quinerly. The announcement was made on Twitter by Quinerly and the team on Thursday night.

Many fans and analysts have been anticipating the announcement from the team since Quinerly’s visit last week with Memphis. It turned into a matter of time before Quinerly would make the decision as many figured that Memphis was the favorites from the jump.

Quinerly averaged around 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and two rebounds last year at Alabama mostly off the bench last season. The guard will play his last season at Memphis with the team looking stacked as ever.

The former Alabama guard will join the Memphis transfer pickup list which includes Jordan Brown, Caleb Mills, David Jones, Jonathan Pierre, Teafale Lenard Jr., Nick Jourdain, and Jayhlon Young.

Quinerly brings a great deal of talent to the backcourt with his playmaking and the ability to score at the rim with a quick dribble. He has improved over the course of his career from the perimeter, so he is considered a threat from the three. The guard opens a great deal of space for the team to run a scheme that gives room for shooters such as Caleb Mills.

With the signing of Quinerly, the possibility of Mikey Williams joining the team, and Deandre Williams working towards another season of eligibility, Memphis has become a serious threat and contender going into the season.

It should be no surprise that Memphis will be a heavy favorite to win the American Athletic Conference. Penny Hardaway and the program have silenced the doubters with some major changes in the coaching department and the team dealing with multiple transfers and graduates.

There's no telling what the starting lineup will be for Memphis at the start of the season, but fans can guarantee that Quinerly will see a significant deal of playing time.
