The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Desmond Bane to a five-year max extension worth $207 million, according to sources. The deal is the largest in franchise history and the first $200 million deal in Grizzlies history.
The 25-year-old guard earns one of the largest deals in free agency thanks to a career year last season. Bane averages around 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists on 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three.
The guard continues to excel in the league as he’s improved each season since being drafted 30th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Bane has become a focal point as the sharpshooter of Memphis' young core alongside Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. The deal ensures that the core stays together long-term as Morant and Jackson Jr are both on multi-year contracts.
The sharpshooter struggled to shoot in the past postseason but much of it had to deal with the broken bone in his toe he suffered back in late November. Bane chose to play through it until the end of the season and underwent surgery for it last month.
Memphis expects Bane to be ready by the start of the season as fans will look at him as the primary scorer in the absence of Morant.
