The Tigers upset the reigning national champions Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford Tuesday night in an 11-9 victory. The win pushed the Tigers’ record to 18-16.
The win is the Tigers' 11th win all-time against the Rebels with their last coming in 2017. It is the biggest win of head coach Kerrick Jackson’s tenure so far.
The Tigers opened the scoring as Senior outfielder Anthony Hansen homered to right field in the top of the first inning.
The Tigers continued their early scoring as they put up one run in the 2nd thanks to an RBI triple by Sophomore second baseman Jake Curtis. Back-to-back RBI singles from Junior catcher Brennan Dubose and Curtis in the 3rd inning extended the Tigers' lead to 6-1.
Ole Miss stormed back scoring a combined five runs in the 4th and 5th innings to tie the game at 6.
Austin Baskin scored a run on a fielder’s choice to give the Tigers the lead once again in the 6th inning.
Ole Miss came back scoring three runs in the 7th inning to make it a 9-7 game in favor of the Rebels.
Entering the 9th inning, the Tigers proceeded to stun the Rebels with three straight home runs to take an 11-9 lead.
Baskin started the home run barrage for the Tigers, homering to left field and scoring Hansen. Junior third baseman Logan Kohler and Sophomore center fielder Cameron Benson capped off the scoring with solo home runs.
Junior relief pitcher Dalton Kendrick closed it out for the Tigers to get his AAC-leading 9th save of the season.
Jake Curtis and Austin Baskin led the way for the Tigers on offense with each totaling three RBIs.
The Tigers will travel to Orlando for a three-game weekend series against UCF starting on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
