Looking for something spooky to do to celebrate the upcoming holiday? Various clubs and organizations on campus are acknowledging Halloween with different events and activities the week leading up to the holiday.
"I love the activities that they have going," said University of Memphis student Aneitra Spencer. "Honestly, it keeps the campus active and helps students feel like they can be included in fun Halloween activities."
Spooky activities start a week before Halloween on Tuesday, Oct. 25. with a haunted house ticket giveaway hosted by the Student Activities Council in the UC Atrium. The tickets are for the Haunted Webb of Horrors haunted house on Perkins Road, valid from Oct. 25 to Oct. 29. The giveaway starts at 11 a.m.
Also, on Tuesday, Le Bonheur Paws for Service will host Boo Grams on the UC Alumni Lawn, a fundraiser selling candy bags to support Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. This fundraiser will last until Thursday and start at 10 a.m.
The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is hosting a Pumpkin Paint and Sip on Wednesday evening, from 5:20 p.m. to 7:20 p.m., in the Beale Room of the University Center.
On Friday, Students of the Japanese Program are hosting a Halloween movie night and dress-up contest. Students are encouraged to vote on which movie to watch on their discord server, and on the night of, students will use the same server to vote for their favorite spooky costume. Prizes will then be given out to the winners. This event will be held in room 338 of the UC building, starting at 5 p.m.
Also, on Friday night, the Sigma Phi Epsilon TN Beta will host a family-friendly haunted house to support the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Midsouth, with more activities outside to ensure everyone has a good time. The haunted house will take place at the SigEp House, and the fun begins at 7 p.m.
On Saturday night, the Kappa Alpha fraternity is hosting a Halloween party at the KA house.
On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music will be hosting a movie screening of the 1931 classic horror movie Frankenstein, but with a scary twist! The University of Memphis Wind Ensemble will accompany the film and perform the written score of the movie live. While the movie starts at 6:30 p.m., guests are encouraged to arrive early for a dance party and a costume contest. This event will be held at Overton Park Shell.
For students attending the Lambuth campus, a Halloween party is being hosted in the Canary Johnson living room starting at 7:00 p.m. on Halloween night.
"It lets us have that day to connect to our inner child and not have to wait till nighttime on Halloween," said Spencer.
