Former Memphis Tigers show off skills at the NFL combine

Darrell Henderson: 

Darrell Henderson was a beast at running back for Memphis during his tenure with the program as he posted 3,545 career yards rushing with an average of 8.2 yards per rush along with 36 touchdowns scored on the ground. With a height of 5-foot-8 and a weight of 208 pounds, Henderson ran a 4:49 40-yard dash at the combine, good enough to give him the sixth fastest time among running backs in the drill.

Henderson was also a threat out the back field, as he caught 63 receptions in his career for 758 yards and 12 touchdowns in the passing game. Henderson said a NFL running back must be strong and versatile.

“To be a running back in the NFL, you’ve got to be able to catch the ball out of the backfield, to pass protect and take those kinds of beatings,†Henderson said to the media in Indianapolis. “Its just all mental; you’ve got to have a mental mindset and you got to be tough.â€Â 

Tony Pollard: 

Tony Pollard, right at 6-foot and 210 pounds, spent time as a slot receiver and running back at Memphis. Pollard totaled 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns through the air, while also racking up 941 yards and nine scores on the ground in his career as a Tiger. Where he shined the brightest was kick returning, averaging 29.4 yards per return and tying an FBS record of seven returned touchdowns.

Pollard displayed his versatility at the Combine, participating as a running back and running a 4:52 40-yard dash, while also showing off his talents as a receiver. He was one of the better backs at route running and receiving. Pollard said he has done a little of everything during his time at Memphis.

“My whole career at Memphis, I’ve been doing all special teams,†Pollard said to the media in Indianapolis. “I kick return, kickoff, punt, gunner, punt returner, blocking the gunners, blocking kicks on punt return, running back, out of the back field, lining up in the slot, learning the route trees. It just helps overall just being able to do a lot of different things.â€Â 

Trevon Tate:

Trevon Tate at 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds was a more-than-reliable lineman for the Tigers’ offense for the past four seasons. Tate started on both sides of the line, while also playing guard and tackle. He brings with him a lot of experience and versatility that could have teams placing him in their radars.

Tate had a solid combine showing, putting up 22 reps on the bench, showing his strength.    

Now the Combine is behind them and they prepare for Pro Day at the University of Memphis on April 3. 31 teams from the NFL will have scouts and representatives seeing what these former Tigers have to offer.
