As the University of Memphis continues celebrating Black History Month, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) will host an event that aligns with Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of making your dreams a reality.
The “I Have A Dream” vision board party will be hosted by Jessika Williams, the NPHC president, alongside vice presidents Isaiah Perry and Kennedie Toney.
“My personal definition for a vision board party is something to where people come together and talk through their visions and their goals in their life and lay them out in a creative and expressive way,” Perry said.
Perry and Williams hope the event will give students a way to express and discuss their aspirations.
“I believe those who attend this event will gain a better understanding of what they envision for themselves in the next few years or so, and they will be able to talk through those visions with other students and gain different perspectives from students they may not have interacted with otherwise,” Perry said.
The event will take place in the Michael Rose D. Theatre on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Attendees must bring their own poster board.
“A vision board party, to us, is a collaborative opportunity to map out your goals, dreams and aspirations to begin to work towards them,” Williams said. “The party aspect opens the door for networking and meeting new people who might have similar goals or maybe have previously done something another attendee might be interested in.”
Perry and Williams expect the event to motivate students to achieve their personal and career goals.
“I decided to host the event because I want to keep students driven and inspire them to fulfill their dreams,” Williams said.
The vision board party will include a DJ and light refreshments. The NPHC said they plan to host similar events in the future.
