Kevyanna Rawls, the president of the student government association, leads the SGA meeting on Thursday night. A revamp to the University of Memphis website as well as a mental health summit were among the things discussed.

The University of Memphis Student Government Association held a meeting to address topics about important information such as an update to the UofM website and Tiger Madness to help students get involved on campus.

UofM students and faculty members will experience a variety of new on-campus events as well as beneficial changes in the workforce.

Kevyanna Rawls, the president of SGA and a senior in English and African-American studies, said it is important for students on campus to engage in different functions such as the Mental Health Seminar.

“Over the course of the last year, we had the opportunity to work with a lot of students on mental health and to be able to discuss our own mental health,†Rawls said. “So we feel like this is an important issue because often students sweep mental health under the rug and forget about it.†

Rawls, along with the SGA members, created a seminar for students to learn ways to handle mental health problem while attending college. She also encourages students and the public to partake in the event.

Vice president of SGA and a junior in professional studies and organizational leadership Antonio Scott said he collaborated with other UofM organizations to plan the Gabrielle Union event.

“It was actually a University of Memphis graduate’s idea to bring Gabrielle Union to campus,†Scott said. “And then it also turned into a collaborative event between the student activity council and multicultural affairs to put on Black History Month.â€

Scott said to reserve tickets online to see Gabrielle Union speak at the UofM on Feb. 27.
