1. Gunshots reported at apartment on Southern Avenue

Officers responded to multiple phone calls Jan. 13 from residents reporting of gunshots in the area of 3655 Southern Ave., according to an incident report made by the Memphis Police Department.

Officers Mettler, Lin and Wagner reported to the scene and were notified by a resident that there were around four to five shots fired on his floor.

After the man identified the location of the shots, the officers knocked on the door and discovered a black man on the phone “yellingâ€, “Hey man, are you all right? Are you all right?†Officers reported they heard the man on the other end say, “I just got robbed. I shot at them.â€

Police entered the home of the other man who was on the phone call and noticed a shell casing in front of his apartment door, according to the report. Officers instructed him to contact his roommates and advise them to arrive at the scene as soon as possible.

When the roommates arrived, one of them found a bullet hole in her room.

After officers reviewed the apartment’s video footage, two black men were detained by law enforcement after being seen with a handgun and rifle.

Both men initially denied their involvement in the incident, but when the men were informed that witnesses reported seeing them at the scene, one of the suspects claimed he was robbed and exchanged fire in self-defense.

There were no reports of injuries from the shooting.

The non-student threatened the student and said he would retrieve a weapon from the vehicle. The two male passengers were found but denied making any threats. No arrests were made, but a BB gun was found in the vehicle and confiscated by law enforcement.
