Campus crimes: Fight in Rec Center, items stolen from vehicles and other crimes

1. Motor vehicle stolen

A student’s vehicle was stolen Nov. 19 between 4:50 and 10 p.m from the lot on Patterson Street between Midland Avenue and Watauga Avenue, according to a report by campus police officer Emmon Fitchpatrick.

Fitchpatrick found tire tracks in the grass in front of the parking space where the victim’s vehicle was parked. The victim said her vehicle was locked, according to the crime report.

 

2. Fight in Rec Center

A fight broke out in the Recreation Center on Nov. 19 at 6:52 p.m., according to a report written by campus police officer Stephen Grisham.

Rec Center staff said the two men involved in the fight fled the scene before police arrived, and one of the men was a former student.

 

3. Motor vehicle break-in

A student’s vehicle was broken into on Nov. 19 between 12:05 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. in the Centennial Place parking lot on Patterson Street near Central Avenue, according to a report by campus police officer Emmon Fitchpatrick.

The victim said he found the key hole punched on the left front door of the vehicle and the steering column popped, according to the report.

 

4. iPad stolen from vehicle roof

A student’s iPad was stolen from the roof of his father’s vehicle in the Central Avenue lot Nov. 19 between 4:10 and 4:25 p.m., according to a report by campus police officer Stephen Grisham.

The victim said he and his father left the parking lot but soon realized that he left the iPad on the roof of the car. The iPad was missing upon their return.

 

5. Fraudulent purchases on student ID

A student’s university ID was used fraudulently to purchase $38.40 worth of food on campus Nov. 15 between 8:33 and 9 a.m.

The victim noticed her card was missing around 2 p.m. on Nov. 12. The ID was found and turned in Nov. 15. The victim was told she only had $0.70 on her account when she tried to use it later that day. All of the fraudulent charges occured at the Ball Education Building vending machines, according to the report.

 

6. Drug paraphernalia found in student residence

A blue bong and yellow marijuana grinder were found in a student’s residence in Carpenter Complex on Nov. 13 at 5:20 p.m. according to a report written by campus police officer Anthony Daniels.

The resident advisor of the dorm found the items  on the desk in the dorm during health and safety inspections. The student who lives in the room was not present at the time of the report. Both items were taken by police, according to the report.

 

7. Motor vehicle thefts

Two students’ vehicles were broken into and stolen from in the Central Avenue lot Nov. 12, according to a report written by campus police officer Walter Davidson.

One victim said he left his car by the Lipman School playground at 10 a.m. and returned at 4:20 p.m. The victim said his driver’s door lock was busted, the dashboard was destroyed, and his radio was stolen. The victim also said some change and a tool to remove the wheel locks were also stolen.

The second victim said he parked his truck by the same playground at 7:45 a.m. and returned at 5:20 p.m. The victim said his driver’s door lock was also punched out, dashboard was destroyed, and his radio and amplifier were stolen.

 

8. Motor vehicle theft

Another student’s vehicle radio was stolen on Nov. 12 between 11:10 a.m. and 3:50 p.m., according to a report written by campus police officer Anthony Daniels.

The victim returned to his car and found his radio stolen. The police discovered that his drivers side key lock was punched in. The victim could not provide a serial number for the radio but valued it at $1,000, according to the report.
