Parking attendant run over by student
A University of Memphis Parking Services attendant was intentionally run over by a student in his car Sept. 4 in the Central Avenue parking lot.
The attendant was writing tickets for illegally parked cars when the student, 22-year-old Matthew Jordan, got upset with the attendant and began calling him names, according to a Shelby County Court affidavit. Jordan then drove around the parking lot near another row of parked vehicles. The attendant attempted to step in front of Jordan’s car to get his attention, according to the affidavit.
Although Jordan slowed down in front of the attendant, he did not completely stop and ran into the attendant, who then fell onto the hood of the car, the affidavit read. Jordan then sped up and came to an abrupt stop, causing the attendant to fall off the hood of the car.
The attendant went to the hospital for cuts on his hands and a sore back, but his current condition is not clear. Jordan admitted to officers that he did hit the attendant, the affidavit read, and he was charged with aggravated assault and transported to 201 Poplar Ave. for booking.
Bicycle stolen from Johnson Hall
A U of M student reported his bicycle stolen from a bike rack outside Johnson Hall around 5 p.m. on Aug. 29, according to a U of M police report written by officer Emmon Fitchpatrick.
The student left his bike on the rack, went to class and returned to find it missing from where he left it. He said he locked it on the rack with a chain, according to the report. There is no more information available at this time.
iPhone stolen from Patterson Hall
A student reported her phone was stolen after she accidentally left it in the second floor bathroom in Patterson Hall around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 28. She returned an hour later after realizing she left it and found that it was no longer there, according to a U of M police report written by officer Claude Berry.
The student checked with several offices in the building, and none knew anything about the phone, according to the report. The phone was shown as offline when she looked for it on the ”Find My iPhone” app. There is no suspect information available, according to the report.
Truck stolen from Central lot
A male student left his truck parked in the Central parking lot near the Barbara K. Lipman school around 9:20 a.m. on Aug. 28. When he returned to the parking lot at 4:50 p.m., the truck was no longer there, according to a U of M police report written by officer Anthony Black.
There was no broken window glass or any other signs of forced entry when officers arrived, according to the report. No other information is currently available.
Cell phone stolen from student
A student was walking near Southern Avenue and Goodman Road on Aug. 26 when he was approached by a black male asking him questions about the Recreation Center, according to a U of M police report written by officer Claude Berry.
The suspect asked the student to dial a number in his phone and allow him to use the phone to make a call. When he was handed the phone, the suspect locked it and put it in his pocket, according to the report.
The suspect then demanded that the victim walk with him and keep quiet, or else he would be harmed, the report read. There is no other currently available information.
