Campus crime log: Police report thefts, threats and break-ins

1. Disorderly ex-boyfriend transported to jail

 

Officers responded to a call on Feb. 6 about a disturbance at Centennial Place involving a 19-year-old man who demanded his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend give him his personal belongings back, then refused to leave, according to a report written by officer James Vickers. 

The report said the man continued to be belligerent and refused to leave when officers arrived. He went into custody for disorderly conduct, and the police transported him to jail. 

 

2. Student returns to car to find his belongings stolen

 

Officer Randy Phillips responded to a theft of motor vehicle parts complaint on Feb. 7 in the Central Avenue Parking Lot. The 20-year-old male victim said in the report written by Phillips he returned to his vehicle in the parking lot and saw the driver’s side door handle was missing, the report said. When he opened the door, he then noticed his dashboard was torn and his radio, amp, laptop, sunglasses and Beats headphones were missing, the report said. The victim found the missing door handle behind his truck.

 

3. Student claims her former friend threatened her

 

An officer responded to an assault intimidation complaint on Feb. 11 at Rawls Hall. An 18-year-old resident said in a report written by officer James Vickers that she and another resident of Rawls Hall used to be friends but do not get along anymore. She said the suspect has made threats and has become more aggressive with those threats, according to the report. This case is under investigation.

 

4. Student receives threatening message in LLC

 

Officers responded to an unspecified threat on Feb. 11 at the Living Learning Complex. A 19-year-old resident said in a report written by officer Emmon Fitchpatrick that she received a text from an acquaintance of a threatening nature. Both University of Memphis and Memphis police officers performed a sweep of the building and found nothing out of the ordinary, according to report. The university sent out an alert to all U of M students through the LiveSafe app about this report. This case is still under investigation.

 

5. Complainant claims someone tried to get into green room

 

Officer Kelly Straub responded to a vandalism call on Feb. 12 at the Rose Theatre. The 46-year-old complainant said in a report written by Straub an unknown person used force, or kicked, to gain entry into the green room. The door splintered from the force but the door remained locked, and no entry was made, according to the report. 

The complainant will call the police with an estimate for a new door, according to the report.

 

6. Stolen vehicle found before victim noticed it missing

 

An officer responded off campus to a stolen vehicle recovery on Feb. 13, according to a report written by officer James Vickers. The Memphis Police Department found a vehicle after it was wrecked. The vehicle had a broken steering column, and the police thought it was stolen but could not locate a report, according to the campus report. 

After further investigation, the report said the vehicle was apparently taken from the Conlee lot and found before the owner of the vehicle knew it had been stolen.
