Memphis women’s soccer midfielder Jessica Lisi and the Canadian U-20 National Team are through to the semifinals of the CONCACAF U-20 World Cup after winning their group.

The Canadians dominated Group A on their way to the semifinals. They defeated Costa Rica 3-1, Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 and Haiti 4-0.

The 2018 CONCACAF U-20 World Cup is hosted by Trinidad and Tobago and serves as a qualification tournament for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in France this August.

Canada’s opponent for the semifinals is to be determined, but the match will be held Friday at 2 p.m.

Lisi was invited to Canadian Soccer’s EXCEL camp last August, and her play earned her a spot on the 20-player roster. Out of the 20 players, only seven play in the NCAA, and Lisi is the only representative of the American Athletic Conference.

The invite to the EXCEL in August was one of two invitations Lisi received in 2017. Earlier in 2017, the midfielder, along with Serena Dolan, a sophomore midfielder for the Tigers,  earned a spot in the Women’s National U18-20 EXCEL Identification Camp.

Lisi will resume play with the Memphis women’s soccer team later this year for spring matches. The Canadian international player has 39 career starts in two full seasons as a Tiger.

As a freshman, Lisi set a Memphis record with nine assists. Additionally, Lisi was Memphis’ second-leading goal scorer, with six goals in 20 matches. Her play in 2016 earned her AAC All-Rookie team as well as AAC All-Second team honors.

Lisi returned as a sophomore for the 2017 season and had another solid season. She recorded the team’s fourth highest point total with 15 points. She established herself as the team’s primary free-kick taker. She produced for the Tigers in close matches, providing three match-winning goals. Lisi maintained her spot on the AAC All-Second team for the second straight season.
