1. Sexual assault complaintÂ
Assistant Chief of Campus Police Derek Myers sent a safety alert email to all University of Memphis students, staff and faculty on Nov. 27 regarding a sexual assault complaint at the Carpenter Complex the previous night. Myers said the victim knows the male respondent, and Campus Police Services is investigating the incident along with assistance from the Memphis Police Department.
2. Items stolen from backpack
A 25-year-old male student reported that items were stolen from his backpack on Nov. 15 at Jones Hall, according to a police report written by officer Claude Berry. The victim left his backpack in a hallway outside of room 241 in Jones Hall and left for about 15 minutes, according to the report. His backpack was missing when he returned and was later located in a bathroom on the second floor with items missing from it, according to the report.
3. License plate stolen from truck
A 24-year-old male student’s license plate was reported as being stolen from his truck in a Park Avenue parking lot on Nov. 15, according to a campus police report written by officer James Vickers. The victim said he took his 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 truck in for service and saw the license plate was missing, according to the report. It is unknown when the license plate was allegedly stolen.
4. Student runs red light, issued a misdemeanor citation for marijuanaÂ
An 18-year-old male student was issued a misdemeanor citation for possession of 3.5 grams of marijuana on Central Avenue and Deloach Street on Nov. 15, according to a police report written by Sgt. Rickey Moore. The suspect ran a red light in a four-door black Jeep at Zach Curlin Street and Central Avenue going 10 miles over the speed limit and was pulled over by police, according to the report. When the suspect was pulled over, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the report. The passenger confessed to having the marijuana in the front console of his car and was charged with a misdemeanor citation for the drug, according to the report.
5. Car tag stolen
A 22-year-old man’s tag was stolen from his vehicle on Veterans Avenue and Patterson Street on Nov. 19, according to a police report written by officer Chanancy Donaldson. The victim said he let his friend use his car for an event on campus. When the friend returned to the victim’s car, the tag from the vehicle was missing, according to the report. The tag was stolen between 5 and 9:30 p.m., the report said.
