Ernest Suttles, a former defensive lineman for the University of Memphis football team, was arrested and charged with rape Oct. 14.
Suttles is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at his home in the 3000 block of Douglass Ave. on Oct. 12. In the affidavit, the victim said she had been involved in a sexual relationship with Suttles for two months. She claimed when she visited his home on Thursday Oct. 12, he forced her to have sex with him, according to the affidavit.
In court on Monday, Suttles pleaded not guilty. According to an Oct. 16 statement from the law offices of Ballin, Ballin and Fishman, “Mr. Suttles was accused of rape this weekend and removed from the University of Memphis team immediately. Mr. Suttles denies any accusation of rape. While a serious matter, being falsely accused of rape is also extremely serious.”
Suttles will appear in court again Dec. 5 for a preliminary hearing. His bond is set at $7,500.
