Campus crime log: Stolen property, cons and threats

1. Laptop stolen in Clement Hall

An 18-year-old female student left her laptop and case behind after leaving class Sept. 26. and when she came back to retrieve her belongings, she was unable to find them, according to a campus police report written by officer Chanancy Donaldson.

The student waited to see if someone was going to turn her property over to police services. The student eventually filed the report on Oct. 9 after realizing her belongings weren’t getting turned in to the police, according to the report. The case has been turned over to an outside agency.

2. Student said he was conned over email

A 19-year-old male student said he was conned out of over $2,000 through his university email on Oct. 10. The victim said he was conned out of $2,260 in the transaction, according to a police report written by officer Chanancy Donaldson.

The victim said the male suspect contacted him about a job offer through his University of Memphis email according to the report. The case has been turned over to an outside agency.

3. Student threatened

On Oct. 10, a 22-year-old female student said a 19-year-old male student was threatening her, and she made an intimidation complaint to police services, according to a campus police report written by officer Chanancy Donaldson.

 She said the suspect was upset about no longer having his leadership position in a club and started making threats to her. The case was referred to the appropriate university department, according to the report, and is currently under investigation.
