1. Two students reported being sexually assaulted this month.
An 18-year-old female student claimed she was sexually assaulted on Oct. 22 by a male non-student who entered her residence through an unlocked door, according to a campus police report written by officer James Vickers (1a on map).
The complainant filed a report on Oct. 22 and met with University of Memphis police services on Oct. 23 with her mother to provide detailed information about the incident.
Derek Myers, assistant chief of campus police, said police know the identity of the suspect, who knows the complainant, and have requested an indictment. Once the suspect has been indicted, the police will release his name, Myers said. The Memphis Police Department Sex Crimes division is assisting U of M police on this case.
This marks the second forcible sexual assault on campus reported to campus police this month.
Campus police responded to another student making a sexual assault claim this month at Centennial Place on Oct. 4 (1b on map). The victim said an acquaintance assaulted her several days earlier, according to another campus police report.
The case involved a female victim and a male suspect, both 18-years-old, and is currently under investigation. The police are currently investigating both incidents.
2. Non-student arrested for trespassing
Campus police responded to an anonymous complaint about a suspicious person in the lobby of the Engineering Science Building on Oct. 23, according to a police report written by officer James Vickers.
Officers found the suspect, 48-year-old Clint Williams, and arrested him. Williams has been arrested several times before for trespassing at the university, the report said. He was transported to the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center, according to the report.
3. Purse stolen from student’s car
A 29-year-old female student returned to her parked car two hours after she had parked on Oct. 19 and discovered her purse missing from her vehicle, according to a police report written by officer Chanancy Donaldson.
The victim said her right rear window was broken and would not rise. Officers checked the vehicle and did not see signs of forced entry, according to the report.
4. Laptop stolen in Carpenter Complex
An 18-year-old female student returned to her dorm room on Oct. 21 and discovered someone had entered and stolen her laptop, according to a police report written by officer James Vickers.
None of her other roommates in the dorm could remember if they locked the doors before they left, according to the report. The victim is attempting to retrieve the serial number for her laptop to try and locate it, the report stated.
