The University of Memphis Homecoming Parade and pep rally will occur Friday at 5:30 p.m., and it will affect traffic flow on the four main streets surrounding the main campus, according to an email sent Tuesday to all faculty, staff and students by Derek Myers, interim chief of police.
Zach Curlin Street will be closed from 4 to 6:30 p.m., where the parade will form. Drivers should use Walker Avenue to enter campus. Access to the Zach Curlin parking garage will be available until 5 p.m. all other streets on campus and surrounding areas will open and close periodically throughout the parade. The Southern Avenue and Central Avenue parking lot will be open to all drivers.
“The parade will travel west on Walker and north on Patterson,” Myers said in the email. “It will then travel east on Central before returning to Zach Curlin and turning west on Norriswood to the McWherter Library, and then south to the Alumni Mall where the parade will end. The pep rally will take place on the Alumni Mall south of the Administration Building.”
The Memphis Police department will direct traffic on city streets and intersections. Campus police will direct traffic on campus. Zach Curlin Street, the Zach Curlin lots and the Zach Curlin parking garage will re-open at 6:30 p.m.
