After 50 years, Jerry’s Sno Cones, the iconic Memphis hangout and tourist attraction, will serve the Memphis population from a second location. The new Jerry’s will be located on Bonnie Lane in Cordova on Wells Station Road.

David Acklin, owner of Jerry’s Sno Cones for the last 15 years, said the Cordova location will open around Jan. 1 of next year and will look similar to the original Jerry’s but with a “different twist.â€

“The building will be in an ‘L’ shape and will include a drive thru and inside area,†Acklin said. “It’ll be painted up the same way, and it screams ‘Jerry’s’.â€

The original Jerry’s, which opened in 1967 on Well Station Road, serves snow cones, burgers and snacks to around 10,000 people a week. The location of the second shop was determined by the people, Acklin said, with over 15,000 votes cast at the original Jerry’s.

A sign marks the new location of Jerry's Sno Cones in Cordova. The new restaurant will carry breakfast and have a drive-thru.

The Cordova location will open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Breakfast food will be added to the menu and will include homemade biscuits, meats, gravy and tater tots. The traditional lunch menu and snow cones will also be included.

In addition to a breakfast menu, new, healthier snow cone flavors will be added, Acklin said.

“We’re working on new flavors, and will probably have five added to the menu,†Acklin said.

In addition to the upcoming second location, voting for a third is underway. Until December votes can be cast at the original Jerry’s location for the potential third location. Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, East Memphis, Midtown, West Memphis and DeSoto County are areas running for these potential spots.

Acklin said he is “very excited†to serve more of Memphis with the opening of the Cordova location, and he hopes it will be a place for people to come together.

“Jerry’s is about making memories- it’s about the people,†Acklin said. “People come out here and they get rid of their phones and they start talking, they bond with each other and it’s amazing.â€

“I really like the lively and colorful atmosphere of Jerry’s,†Okins said.

Katherine Zaleski, 22, special education senior, said she loves how Jerry’s “brings people together.â€

“It’s a hole in the wall that doesn’t look like much but has amazing burgers and snow cones,†Zaleski said. “It makes the Memphis heat a lot more enjoyable in the summer.â€
