Merchandise stolen from bookstore
One student decided the University of Memphis owed him a little more than an education. More than $500 of merchandise was stolen from the University Bookstore in a plastic bag on April 20, according to a campus police report written by officer Stephen Grisham.
The 21-year-old suspect visited the bookstore earlier that day. The bookstore staff captured the theft on video. He later returned, and staff members spotted him and called campus police.
“We usually don’t catch thefts – We just lucked out,†complainant and staff member of the bookstore Jennifer Kay said. “We have cameras all over the bookstore.â€
The suspect admitted to the crime, and he had 10 Xanax pills in his possession, which he said he got from a friend.
The student was issued a misdemeanor citation for drug possession and shoplifting.

The 24-year-old victim had $200 in cash, a Regions bank card and her driver’s license stolen from her passenger seat, the report said.

He did not find anything missing from the inside of his vehicle, and instead of reporting to campus police, he immediately patched the hole up himself. After speaking with family members, the victim decided to file a report on April 20.Â
