Black Lives versus All Lives debate

Former Memphis Police Department director Toney Armstrong, who is currently the director of security and transportation at St. Jude, came to the University of Memphis journalism department’s opinion writing class to discuss the state of the city and police in the United States.

He brought up the Black Lives Matter movement and said they don’t seem to care when black people are killed by other black people, only when they are killed by police. He wanted to see them advocate for everyone and get upset when a black person is killed by anyone because “all lives matter.”

This statement inspired two students, Alexandra Pounders and Jeremiah Graham, to write their opinions on “Black Lives Matter” versus “All Lives Matter.” See what they wrote to the left of this article.
