This year is a special one for Memphis culture, as many of the city’s attractions will celebrate milestone anniversaries this year.
They’ve decided to team up and give something back to their visitors. Among the participants of the Memphis Culture Crawl are the Memphis Zoo, Opera Memphis and the Grizzlies.
The Culture Crawl will be an ongoing event throughout the year, where people can win prizes every time they visit one of the attractions.
Jonathan Lyons, director of public relations at the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, hopes this will attract a lot of people.
“The goal is to increase awareness that Memphis is home to many unique attractions and encourage local residents as well as visitors to explore them,” Lyons said.
You simply have to take a selfie at the venue you are visiting and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #MEMCultureCrawl to take part in the competition.
This will enter you automatically into the raffle.
The more places you visit and the more selfies you post, the higher are your chances of winning.
The winners will be contacted directly by the attraction at different times this summer.
“The idea for the Culture Crawl came from several of the attractions who knew they had milestone anniversaries coming up in 2016,” Lyons said.
“Representatives from each attraction started meeting every few weeks to brainstorm ideas on how to cross-promote each other’s anniversary,” Lyons said.
The Culture Crawl is starting off with the Memphis in May festival, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Everyone who posts a picture of a past festival experience has a chance of winning two three-day passes to the Beale Street Musical Festival or two two-day passes to the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. The winners will be announced in April.
