The University of Memphis’ music school is offering a chance for people to dedicate a seat in its new concert hall, which is expected to be finished in two years.
The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music will host a concert at the Harris Concert Hall on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
“The Love Songs to Memphis” concert will benefit the “Take Your Seat Campaign,” which offers attendees the opportunity to dedicate a seat in the new Music Center Concert Hall.
The concert will feature musicians Joyce Cobb and Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra.
“The ‘Take Your Seat’ campaign is an opportunity for members of the community to dedicate a seat in the new Music Center in honor of someone special in their lives,” said John Chiego, director of U of M’s School of Music.
“It could be a family member, a professor who had a profound impact on them or in their own name as a way of showing their support for the University,” said Chiego.
The funds generated by the ‘Take Your Seat’ campaign will go directly to the building fund for the new concert hall.
“We are hoping that ground can be broken on the new building next year and the completion of the building will be two years after that,” said Chiego.
The 40,000 square foot Music Center performance hall will have more than 1,000 seats that will be dedicated in time for the doors to open to the public.
According to Chiego, seats can be dedicated for either $2,500 or $1,000. All seat dedications will include an inscribed plaque on the back of the seat.
However, seats dedicated for $2,500 will be located in the premium areas of the concert hall, the orchestra and certain box seats.
All seat dedications will be assigned based on the order in which the gift is received.
Nameplates can be purchased using an installment plan for up to four years.
Seat name recognitions do not guarantee a reservation in the concert hall for future performances.
Admission to the ‘Love Songs for Memphis’ concert is free, but prior to attending reservations must be mad
