The office of student leadership and involvement is accepting applications for the spring 2016 semester of the Professional Connections Program.
The Professional Connections Program gives highly motivated students the opportunity to connect and network with community leaders one Friday a month over a lunch that will be provided by the Student Leadership and Involvement Staff.
“We want students to comprehend what employers are seeking, what story they need to tell and what opportunities exist in Memphis,” said Zach Carr, leadership programs advisor for student leadership and involvement.
Students who are accepted to the program will discuss topics that will further enhance the students’ leadership skills.
The program, which began five years ago, was designed to give students an edge over their competition and prepare them to be outstanding leaders after college.
“Successful students (those attaining work post-graduation) need the value of the network, the information it provides and the doors it opens,” said Carr. “That is what we are trying to achieve with professional connections.”
Community leaders in the past have come from FedEx, Lipscomb Pitts, and International Paper. Students who attend the Professional Connections Program will receive advice about resume writing, interviewing and social media branding.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Requirements for the program include attending Friday sessions held on Feb. 12, March 18 and April 15 in the University Center from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
The deadline to apply for the spring semester of the Professional Connections Program is Wednesday, February 10.
