On Monday afternoon, a gas leak was detected in Innovation Garage at the University of Memphis.
MLGW was on site Tuesday determining the cause of the leak and how to repair it.
Joel Mooney, director of operations for the physical plant, said that the leak was detected in the main line. This line serves the main campus and areas east of the University.
Students are still being asked to avoid the area due to repairs, Mooney said. Excavation and large equipment may be a part of the repairs. Those areas that are being repaired and should be avoided are marked.
“We have been informed by MLGW that the leak is not at a dangerous level,” Mooney said. “MLGW will work at least through tomorrow on the repair, however, it could take longer.”
Upon completion of the repairs, a Tiger Text will be sent to inform students that the repairs are complete.
