Former U of M football player allegedly steals Nike gear

A former Memphis Tiger wide receiver is accused of stealing athletic gear from a facility on campus.

Keiwone Malone, who played for Memphis from 2011 to 2014, is accused of stealing Nike gear from the athletic facility on the South Campus, according to a University of Memphis Campus Police Services report.

Malone was allegedly seen on camera stealing an estimated $250 worth of Nike shoes, socks and t-shirts on Jan. 18, according to the police report.

A second suspect was also listed in the report, but his identify is unknown.

Campus police responded to the call from Marc Hohorst, equipment manager for the U of M, at about 11 p.m.

Hohorst would not comment about the alleged event.

During Malone’s career as a Tiger, he played in 45 games and started 13 of those contests. He finished his collegiate career with 1,497 receiving yards, which ranks eleventh all-time in Memphis football history and 125 receptions which ranks sixth.

Malone was named second- team all-conference by the American Athletic Conference as well as the second-team all- conference punt returner in 2012 and 2014.

Malone graduated from the U of M in Dec. 2014 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

Police have not yet arrested any suspects.
