David Gregory is the new acting chancellor for the Tennessee Board of Regents.
The announcement was made during a conference call Thursday afternoon, between regent members and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam.
Haslam said Gregory has the character, insight and commitment to the system, to carry on this role as chancellor.
David Gregory said he is thankful for Haslam’s belief in him and the trust that the board is placing in him. He said he doesn’t take this opportunity lightly.
Gregory was a veteran public administrator and vice chancellor for administration in facilities development for TBR.
Gregory thanked Haslam and his predecessor, John Morgan, who announced he would retire on Jan. 31 – One year earlier then he was planning on retiring.
“I want to say that John's a friend of mine, but he didn’t know that even after 30 years that he would have accomplished all that he’s done,†Gregory said. “I hope I can be a steady hand in this transition.â€Â
