The University of Memphis Police Services responded to a total of 19 incidents from March 1 to March 24.
On March 1 at 12:08 a.m., police arrived at Carpenter Complex where they found 40 people, a DJ, and alcohol in the apartment. The three under-21 residents were identified and everyone else was dismissed from the apartment. The case was directed to Student Conduct. Later that day at 1:42 p.m., an officer arrived at the Holiday Inn where a staff member had her lock and personal belongings missing from her locker in the employee locker room.
On March 2 at 8:15 a.m., an officer arrived at the FedEx Institute of Technology where one U of M employee was seen loading drink products from a golf cart into his personal vehicle. The employee was later brought to Police Services and gave a statement.
Later that day at 7:15 p.m., an officer arrived at Jones Hall in response to a female student receiving threatening messages and calls from a family member.
On March 3 at 10:18 p.m., an officer arrived at the University Center where a student had put her coat down in the bathroom. An unidentified female grabbed the coat and fled the restroom.
On March 4 at 1:09 and 1:10 p.m., police responded to two separate vandalism incidents in Lot 37 at Patterson and Central and Lot 17 at Southern and Patterson. The student in Lot 37 had his vehicle keyed on both sides and the rear while the Lot 17 student had her vehicle broken into and raided with nothing missing.
Later that night at 11:35 p.m., officers arrived on Patterson near Midland where a man had driven up to two students earlier, got out of his vehicle wielding a shotgun and robbed the two students. The suspect was last seen driving west on Central past Holmes Road.
On March 8 at 1:30 a.m., police arrived at the Residence area where they heard a male talking loudly. When police walked inside, the male hit an officer and fled where he was taken into custody.
Officers later found marijuana and a loaded weapon in the apartment. The suspect also had vandalized his girlfriend’s property. The male was charged with assault, trespassing, possession of a weapon on school property, possession of narcotics, resisting, and vandalism.
On March 10 at 1:24 p.m. and 5:20 p.m., police responded to two separate incidents of theft from a motor vehicle at the Holiday Inn lot on Central and the South Lot near the Student Recreational Center. A car window was broken into with a DVD entertainment unit missing in the Holiday Inn lot while a driver’s door lock was damaged and a backpack was missing in the South Lot.
On March 12 at 3:40 p.m., an officer arrived at the McWherter Library where a man was harassing a female student when he eventually exposed himself. The student fled the building and called the police.
On March 14 at 8:57 p.m., an officer arrived at a University rental property on Galloway where a window was broken. No entry was made into the home.
On March 18 at 12:30 p.m., police arrived at the South Lot where a man stole a Parking Assistant’s cell phone and drove away while making verbal threats. The suspect was arrested later.
On March 19 at 8:10 a.m., an officer arrived at the Fogelman College of Business where a student’s backpack was reported missing. The bag was later found in the men’s room with the laptop missing. The laptop and suspect were found later that day.
On March 20 at 12:05 a.m., an officer arrived at Lot 17 on Patterson and Southern where a vehicle’s window was broken into with the car radio stolen.
On March 23 at 8:23 p.m., an officer arrived at Richardson Towers where a female student had received threats through a text message when she responded to the intimidator that she could not pay him back for the money she owed.
On March 24 at 8:56 a.m., an officer arrived at the Fogelman College of Business where a man arrived in an office and requested information. The female staff member left the desk and came back with items missing in her purse.
Later that night at 10:45 p.m., police arrived at South Hall where a distinct smell of marijuana was observed in one of the rooms. Police knocked and entered the room where the smell was strongest; all of the occupants denied usage and no drugs were found. The case was directed to Student Conduct.
