The University of Memphis sent out just the fifth safety alert of the semester on April 7th at 12:40 a.m. to students, faculty and staff. It was reported as an attempted robbery an hour and ten minutes after the initial crime took place.
At around 11:30 p.m. two individuals were walking on Mynders between Highland and Brister. This area is considered off campus, but is a high traffic area for students.
A man approached the two individuals with a small, dark colored handgun demanding money. When the two individuals informed the assailant that they had no money, he fled south through an apartment complex. There were no injuries.
The attempted robber was described as African-American, in his late 20’s and had short natural hair. He was clean-shaven, of medium complexion, approximately 5'8” and was of medium build. He was also wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a black baseball cap.
