Local employers seeking to hire the U of M's best and brightest at Career Fair

The unemployment rate of Memphis is 7.6 percent, Shelby County has a rate 8.1 percent, Tipton County's rate increased to 8.8 last November, and Arkansas comes in last at 9.7 percent. With these alarming rates in mind, it seems as though students could all the help they could get.

A plethora of potential employers is coming to The University of Memphis this Wednesday to provide students with a chance to meet face to face and show off their goods at the Career and Internship Expo on March 4 in the UC Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. hosted by the Career Services Office and the Office of Academic Internships.

During this free event, students and alumni will be able to network with employers who are seeking to hire full-time, part-time, and internship candidates.

Over 75 organizations have registered to attend the expo ranging from business to industry and even non-profit to government agencies. Many of these employers are seeking degreed candidates for jobs and internships.

The company responsible for the renovation and expansion of the Liberty Bowl, Flintco is one of Memphis’ largest construction services and will be recruiting at the expo. Danny Moeschle, the senior project manager, explained that this would be Flintco’s first time attending the annual event at the U of M.

“I’m an alumni of the University of Memphis so I know what the school has to offer. The students there are an asset to the community and it’s important to take advantage of that,” he said.

With over 50 years of experience, Glasteel has an international presence because it is one of the world’s leading companies in the manufacture and sale of fiberglass-reinforced plastic sheets. Glasteel’s director of human services Nelson Keaton will be recruiting from the event with high hopes.

“We want students in close proximity,” he said. “We know that Memphis has a good reputation for good people.”

The Urban Teacher Center, West Memphis Beale Street and NovaCopy, Inc. will also be among the list of potential employers at the Career and Internship Expo recruiting all majors, to name a few.

Because this is a professional fair, professional dress is required. The overall appearance can indicate the level of professionalism and ability to adapt in an office environment

A resume is recommended to advertise skills and qualifications offered to employers.
