Valentine’s Day is this Saturday, and University of Memphis students will have the opportunity to attend an alternative Valentine’s Day celebration, the first annual Palintine’s Day Party.
The party will take place Saturday in the UC hosted by Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. The Feb. 14 party will feature games, music, a photo booth, a dance floor, and food.
“Not everyone has a date, but everyone has a friend.” Lilie Owens the Outreach Officer is so hyped about this party. She wants people who don’t have any Valentine’s Day plans to come, but she also wants people who are interested in making some new pals to be there.
“It’s ok if no one said be mine you’ll have a lot more fun with us at Palentine.” That’s a slogan created by President Carlie Provence. She wants Palentine to be an exciting event where people can come and meet new friends and because she feels no one should be alone on Valentine’s Day.
Provence and Owens will not just be attending this event but will be volunteer workers.
Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship is an organization where students can come together, worship God, encourage one another and pray, and build lasting, meaningful relationships with each other.
Matt and Jacki Drane are the founders of the Chi Alpha ministry here on campus. They were involved at University of Tennessee Martin chapter for eight years before coming to University of Memphis and starting a Chi Alpha ministry here.
Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship came to the University of Memphis about a year and a half ago. They meet every Thursday at 7 p.m. in the U.C. The meetings offer worship service, games, and food, and despite the Greek letters, this organization is not a fraternity or sorority.
The purpose of the Palintine's Day Party is to get people together to make new friends and to give people something fun to do on Valentine’s Day. The chapter is also expecting some students from LSU and Ole Miss to join the festivities. The party is free and runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
