Super Bowl picks: The biggest questions for the NFL’s game of the year

With the biggest game in the United States happening on Sunday, The Daily Helmsman asked it’s Managing Editor Patrick Lantrip, Sports Editor Omer Yusuf and our three sports reporters Austin Reynolds, J.T. Mullen and Jonah Jordan the four most important questions about the Super Bowl matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots ranging from the game picks to the best prop bet.

Who you do you have winning the game and why?

PL: I think the Seahawks will beat the Patriots 31-27. I feel like the Seahawks bold strategy to neutralize Darrell Revis by not having any good receivers will pay off.

OY: I have the Patriots winning 27-17, I think the Seahawks’ momentum will end in a hurry and deflate-gate will reign supreme.

AR: I’ve got Seattle 24-20. It’s incredibly evenly matched, but I think the Seahawks defense gives them the slight edge.

JM: Seattle Seahawks because of defense, defense and defense.

JJ: The New England Patriots because Tom Brady is in the zone and the Seahawks are banged up on defense.

Who do you think will win Super Bowl MVP?

PL: Marshawn Lynch will be awarded the MVP trophy before delivering the most awkward acceptance speeches in recent history.

OY: Rob Gronkowski

AR: Marshawn Lynch

JM: Marhshawn Lynch

JJ: Touchdown Tom Brady because you never count out Touchdown Tom

Best Prop Bet?

PL: I’m taking the over number of “Deflategate” mentions with a Belichick in a sleevless hoddie parlay.

OY: Katy Perry’s hair at the Super Bowl I’m taking those 5/1 odds on purple hair.

AR: The over/under for how many times “deflated balls” are referred to is 2.5. Give me that over.

JM: What color sweatshirt Patriots coach Bill Belichick will wear and I’m going with the grey with cut-off sleeves.

JJ: Who will have the most crotch grabs during Super Bowl XLIV?

Katy Perry -120

Marshawn Lynch -120

Biggest storyline going into the Super Bowl?

PL: I feel like both teams have a lot at stake from a historical perspective. If New England wins, and Tom Brady finishes with a 4-2 record in the Super Bowl, then he stakes a legitimate claim for greatest of all time. If Seattle wins, then I believe they cement their spot next to the ’85 Bears and the 2000s Ravens as one of the greatest defenses ever.

OY: Marshawn Lynch and his awkward relationship with the media, but his Progressive commercial more than makes up for it.

AR: Deflate-gate

JM: The Patriots going for Super Bowl no.4 or Seattle going back-to-back

JJ: Touchdown Tom vs. The Legion of Boom
