Memphis songwriter Lauren Moscato will get the chance to record music at Capitol Records in Los Angeles, California after winning songwriter of the year at the 2014 Indie Music Channel Songwriter Awards.
A music business major at the University of Memphis, Moscato has a passion for the art of music. Her song “He Gives Me Strength” won Best Contemporary Christian genre and Best Overall. She will get to record six songs at Capitol Records and plans on staying there for about a week.
“I enjoy writing Christian Contemporary songs that convey the message of how God has such an important role in my life,” Moscato said. “I’m looking forward to the environment at Capitol Records and all the history that’s behind it. I’m excited to work with people who know what they are doing.”
The contest allowed its applicants to submit more than just one song. When Moscato wrote “He Gives Me Strength” she decided to submit that as her one song. Moscato felt it was the one, and she was right.
“When I won the contest it was announced over video online and I also received a phone call,” Moscato said. “It was exciting.”
Originally from Syracuse, New York, Moscato found her passion early, starting to sing at the age of three and later playing the piano for her church. She then went on to write her first song her sophomore year of high school by drawing from personal experiences in her life. She knows she’s right where she needs to be and wants to do this for a living.
“My inspiration comes from my family,” Moscato said. “It comes from where we’ve been in life, and what all I struggled with while growing up. My songs are based off of experiences I’ve been through. It’s my testimony.”
Listeners can download a copy of Moscato’s song “He Gives Me Strength” for free on Spotify and ITunes. She will leave in the spring to record in Los Angeles, and fans can hear more of her music when she releases an EP in April.
“This song is a message of hope to others that I have found through God alone, who is the ultimate source of my strength,” Moscato said.
