Fogelman Business School gives students new opportunities

For many students, the one question on their minds is what happens after college. With student loans and tuition rates creeping up, many college students want to participate in a program that helps them find a job after school.

The University of Memphis Fogelman Business and Economics program might be one of those programs. At 18 percent, the school has the highest graduation rates in the University of Memphis, and according to the U.S News and World Report, the Fogelman Business School is the most popular major selected by students at the U of M.

Mary Johnson works as the scheduling coordinator and advisor for honor students for the business school. She has been on staff for 29 years. She explained why the program has such a high graduation rate.

“Part of it is the job opportunities given to student through the program,” Johnson said. “We also have a faculty that cares about the students’ learning.”

The Fogelman business school also offers students internship opportunities at local businesses in the Memphis area.

According to a study done by the Princeton Review, 56 percent of Fogelman graduates find employment within three months of graduation, and that graduates could expect a median salary or $92,000.

Fogelman has many resources available to help students get a job. The Avron B. Fogelman Professional Development Center was implemented to help students break into today’s competitive workforce. The school has partnered with International Paper, FedEx, First Tennessee and numerous other mid-south businesses to help students get internships and job experience and prepare them for their careers. Johnson explained how the internship program helped students.

“We have a big internship program, students can seek them on their own or they can go through complete profession program” said Johnson. “The college does an excellent job of working with students in the business community with getting internships set up.”

Fogelman Business College also provides students with an opportunity to study abroad though the Morgan Morton Student Travel Enrichment Fund, which awards money to students for study abroad programs, based on their needs.

Johnson affirmed Fogelman College’s commitment to its students.

“Our dean is very committed to giving students opportunities above and beyond the classroom,” said Johnson. “The possibilities are endless.”
