Earphunk set to rock The Hi-Tone

With a sweet, yet nasty sound, New Orleans’ Earphunk is coming to Memphis for an Oct. 11 show at The Hi-Tone. Laced with hints of Zappa, John Mayer, and Parliament Funkadelic, the band even holds the distinction complimented by George Clinton himself as being “not your average white band.”

Memphis is second stop on a Southeastern U.S. tour to promote their latest album “Sweet Nasty,” which was released the day before its official release date on BitTorrent as a bundle that can be downloaded from the band’s webpage Earphunk.com.

This tour marks the band’s second promoting the album.

“We did a little Northwest run back in August,” keyboardist Christian Galle said.

“Montana, Wyoming, Portland, Seattle, a little bit of Colorado, Denver, Fort Collins. We’re going to try to make it out to the West Coast again 2015.”

This’ll be Earphunk’s first time in Memphis.

“I’m always stoked about having New Orleans bands,” Jonathan Kiersky, owner of the Hi-Tone, said. “Anytime we get to work with somebody new it’s a pleasure, and hopefully we’ll get to work with them a lot more in the future.”

The opening act, Agori Tribe, are veterans of the Hi-Tone and has previously opened up for acts such as Yelawolf. Earphunk has reached out to Agori Tribe before, but were previously unable to work out a date.

“The scheduling never worked out, but this time we’re available so we jumped on it,” Agori Tribe drummer ____ Naughton, said.

Unfortunately, this’ll be an “Almost Tribe” showing as bassist Dave Hash won’t be able to make it.

“We can hold down the usual tracks that we play and everything like that, but just a little side note there so that people aren’t confused,” Naughton said. “Our keyboard player can hold down the bass notes pretty well himself.”

Tickets will be $15 at the door, and $11 if ordered before 7 pm on Saturday.
