An Apple employee at the store in Memphis dismissed the problems with the new iPhone 6 saying there have been only a handful of issues across the country, and even if there are problems the company will replace any phone found to be defective.
“The only complaint we’ve had so far in our store has been that it’s too big, which doesn’t really make sense because that’s what people asked for,” Apple Genius Ethan Chute said.
But Apple’s newest iPhone ran into some glitches after users complained the larger of the two models is vulnerable to bending and the new software update blocked their calls.
According to Chute, there are only nine reported cases of the phone actually bending, and it is not any easier to bend than any of its competitors.
Chute has been at the Saddle Creek Apple location for five years. He started out as a specialist and worked his way up to a top job. He also is the owner of an iPhone 6 Plus.
“If you have AppleCare, you have two years of replacement hardware and software support over the phone and in stores,” he said. “AppleCare does replace broken devices as well, so even if this were to happen (bending) it would be easy to get a replacement.”
Despite the rumors, prospective buyers camped out in front of the Apple store three days before the release. When asked what the point of this was, answers varied from wanting to be first in line to being able to say they had the experience.
University of Memphis student Tonika Ingram used a different approach and pre-ordered her iPhone 6 online on the Apple website. She received her phone the day of the release.
“The battery life is great and it hasn’t had any glitches,” she said. “As far as improvements, I hate the power button being on the side because I am a previous iPhone user and am used to it being on top.”
Ingram said she has heard the phone is prone to bending so she bought AppleCare insurance in case there were any issues.
Ingram’s positive reaction of the new phone is not out of the ordinary. Though some users mentioned things that need improvement, others praised Apple’s newest device.
“I love the bigger screen and the camera,” psychology major Rachel Lang said. “I know someone who is a die-hard android fan and even he wants a 6 plus.”
